Born in 1975 in Kétao, Togo, Sadikou Oukpedjo lives and works in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He integrates in 1998 the workshop of Paul Ahyi in Lomé, Togo where he works essentially wood carving and assemblages. For four years he collects and links traditional visual objects in an elaborated work. He questions his cultural heritage through the prism of current issues.
He created his own studio in Agoe Nyeve, near the capital. He gets involved in new research and invites other emerging artists to share this creative space in a spirit of community.Sadikou Oukpedjo begins painting next to his work as a sculptor and multiplies experiments
with: cement paper, pastel highlight, chalk, colors, paintings. He only reveals his sculptures
according to his questions about politic, denouncing the abuses of the power poles, broaching the issues of religion and social inequality. These works take a new form: the piece is entirely reworked, on the surface. The artist gradually moved away from multiple forms. His desire to explore new worlds brings him to Mali, a country of his distant origins. He moved to Bamako which becomes his open air studio. Finally, he exhibited his paintings in a solo show in Bamako in 2012 at the Goethe Institut.Sadikou Oukpedjo moved to Abidjan in 2013 where he is devoted to his painting. On his return from the Dak’Art Off in 2014, he starts a series of drawings on newspaper, figures, half-human, half animal, which were presented at 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London in 2014 by the Galerie Cécile Fakhoury. His works are part of the Fondation Blachère and Tiroche Deleon Collection.
