Reinventing Landscape @ Centre Pompidou x West Bund Museum Project Shanghai: Cheikh Ndiaye
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is pleased to announce the participation of artist Cheikh Ndiaye in the group exhibition Reinventing Landscape at the West Bund Museum Project in Shanghai, presented in partnership with the Centre Pompidou.
Reinventing Landscape will be the fourth semi-permanent exhibition, on view from April 28, 2025 to October 18, 2026. The exhibition highlights landscape art and the profound transformations it has undergone throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Divided into nine thematic sections, it explores stylistic categories, the artist's perspective, the relationship to light, interventions in nature, and the recreation of environments within the exhibition space itself.
Cheikh Ndiaye's universe constantly echoes the origin of his research: the street. His painted views create openings, seemingly piercing through opaque, dense, and imposing raw concrete walls. Everyday objects, meanwhile, refer us back to a tangible and established reality, even as they appear to oscillate between heterogeneous spheres and distant spaces. The order of things-through visible or concealed forms-is continuously reinvented, extending to its very margins.
The unity of Cheikh Ndiaye's practice lies in his use of material and in his recognition of its plurality. He gives form to the idea of the porosity of substances through relationships of otherness, and proposes a conception of erosion as a movement of resistance against forgetting.
