Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is delighted to present Da qui (à partir d'ici), Binta Diaw's first solo exhibition in Paris. Winner of the Prix Pujade-Lauraine in 2022, nominated for the Prix Reiffers Art Initiatives in 2023, and currently in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris thanks to the support of the Art Explora foundation, Binta Diaw presented Paysages, a solo exhibition at the Magasin de Grenoble in 2022.
The exhibition at Galerie Cecile Fakhoury in Paris presents the state of her research and focuses on new aspects of her work, revealing its multiple facets. Binta Diaw's plastic research is part of a philosophical reflection on the social phenomena that define our contemporary world, such as migration, the notion of belonging and the question of gender. In her work, she invokes her Senegalese and Italian cultural heritage, particularly the history of Italian art. The exhibition will feature a previously unseen corpus of images from her performance practice, in dialogue with two installations.
A monographic catalog is published to coincide with the exhibition, including visuals from the artist's previous exhibitions at Galerie Cécile Fakhoury in Abidjan (2021) and Dakar (2022), as well as contributions by Françoise Vergès, Janine Gaëlle Dieudji, Marie-Hélène Pereira and Delphine Lopez.
