Born in 1970 in Ngor, Senegal, Diogal Sakho is a musician, author, composer and performer. He composes and sings, in Wolof, songs at the crossroads of the traditional sounds of his country, Senegal, and contemporary Western music.

Les contes d'Amadou Koumba
Birago Diop
Les Contes d'Amadou Koumba is a collection of nineteen tales from Senegal and other African countries, transcribed and translated into French by Birago Diop from the stories of the griot Amadou, son of Koumba. The collection was first published in 1947.

Birago Diop (1906-1989) is a writer and poet, known in particular for his dealings with negritude and the writing of traditional tales from African oral literature.

Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba

"I am an artist a little different from the others, and I feel it even more since 2016, the year I lost my dad. Since then, I listen all day long to the Xassidas and the writings of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba inspire me a lot when I work." SID

Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba (1853-1927) is a Senegalese theologian, Muslim jurist and Sufi. He is one of the most important figures of Islam in the region as founder of the Mouride brotherhood. He was also a great poet and marked the history of Senegal by his peaceful resistance to colonization.

Mouridism is a Sufi fraternity, the second to penetrate Senegal, where, together with Gambia, it is almost exclusively established.

The Xassida, also called Khassida or Khassaides, are Sufi Muslim religious poems.

Iba Ndiaye
Tabaski (Le sacrifice du mouton), 1963

Iba Ndiaye (1938-2008) is a Franco-Senegalese painter, born in Saint-Louis, Sénégal. He notably participated in the creation of the School of Arts of Senegal, where he had his first personal exhibition in 1962 and where he taught until 1966. Often referred to as one of the pioneers of modern African art, he is a key figure on the Senegalese art scene.

Tabaski, Sacrifice du Mouton (1963), typical of N’Diaye’s work, is part of a ten-part series focusing on the Senegalese Tabaski ritual, an annual festival commemorating the Qur’anic account of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, and Allah’s response in providing a wild sheep as a substitute. In this canvas, three sheep and one human form seem to emerge from the gestural, muddied storm of paint.

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) is an American painter. He becomes very early a popular avant-garde painter and pioneer of the underground movement. Considered one of the comets of contemporary art, he elevated street art to the rand of fine arts. His work bears witness to the reminiscences of his family's past (his Haitian origins), combined with the influences of pop art. He was the first African-American contemporary artist to become a star during his lifetime and has had an immense influence on contemporary arts and culture to this day.

Prison Break is a 90 episode, 43 minute American television series created by Paul Scheuring and aired on the Fox network between 2005 and 2009. This show presents the misadventures of two brothers confronted with the prison world. The plot revolves around the various prisons in which they or some of their relatives will be incarcerated, as well as their successive attempts to escape. The series quickly met a great success with the public.
