Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is pleased to participate in the 5th edition of Cape Town art Fair from February 17th to 19th, 2017 at Cape Town International Convention Centre.
For its first participation, the gallery proposes a show presenting works by two Ivorian artists from different generations: wooden sculptures by Jems Robert Koko Bi and paintings made with melted plastic by Yéanzi.
In his work, Jems Koko Bi investigates the phenomena of space and history. Each piece of timber has a story that inspires and guides his hand. The artist gesture reveals the shape. He awakens the element with a mastered intuitive precision.
Yéanzi works in Bingerville, this rural environment is his workshop. In his neighborhood he searches, explores and encounters people. He listens and collects the stories that he later reinterprets in his paintless paintings. He rewrites characters using two voices; one portraying their memories and past and the other representing their projected future.
African identity is the foundation of their practice; while Jems Robert Koko Bi explores human history and African politics, Yéanzi focuses more on the peculiarities of the individuals. Through these artworks, based on the transformation of matter, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury-Abidjan wishes to present a selection of Ivorian contemporary creation.
