Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is pleased to participate in the 10th edition of Investec Cape Town Art Fair in Cape Town, South Africa.
For the fair’s 10 years anniversary, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury will present a special project realised by artists Rachel Marsil and Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux.
Both working around portraiture and its symbolic significance in history, the two artists share their sensibility for topics such as the transmission of memory, intimate affirmations of identities and the questioning of social constructions. The booth is built as the result of a four- handed collaboration. It operates as a space suspended in time, literally trapped between sky and earth, and conceived to favor day dreaming and contemplation. Here, Rachel Marsil and Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux perpetuate their dialogue with Art History borrowing either from classical Renaissance-like painting (Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux) or from early age Primitivism (Rachel Marsil), yet always adding their contemporary reinterpretation. The paintings’ atmosphere is eerie : a mesmerizing and melancholic beauty cannot but insinuate itself into the mind of the viewer.
