Artist Binta Diaw has been selected as one of three finalists for the fourth edition of the MAXXI BVLGARI prize, a project designed to support and promote young artistic talent. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art and Bulgari, the iconic Italian brand with a history stretching back over 130 years. Throughout its history, Bulgari has played a key role in promoting emerging talent on the international scene.
Binta Diaw (Milan, 1995, lives and works in Milan) is a Senegalese-Italian visual artist. By proposing new narratives, she seeks to deconstruct the processes that have led to the instrumentalization of bodies in history. Binta Diaw aims to weaken and disrupt the integrity of Euro-centric history by allowing the individual experience of displaced populations to take its place in collective history and participate in its writing.
In May 2024, the finalists' in situ works will be exhibited at the museum, and the jury will select the winner, whose work will become part of the MAXXI collection.
