Discover the work of artist Sadikou Oukpedjo at the SLEEP IS PRAYER exhibition.
SLEEP IS PRAYER is a site-specific installation of sound, film, sculpture, paintings and performance. It disrupts the clock of capitalism by asking its viewers to slow down, connect to the wisdom of the Earth and recall the practice of dreaming.
Our world is in an endless cycle of chaos and destruction. Africa, where the earliest traces of humankind are found connects every human being, but due to exploitation, the plunder of natural resources and the theft of land, the dreams of Africans the world over are deferred. Can rest, renewal and space for imaging new possibilities be found in this waking world? Can old ways of thinking die so new just ways of living in right relationship with the land and each other thrive?
SLEEP IS PRAYER encourages dreaming as a portal of communication with the wisdom of the ancestors, a powerful opportunity to receive guidance on the path to liberation. We invite you to rest, relax your senses and dream as an act of resistance and survival.
