The World Around Summit 2026 @ MoMa : François-Xavier Gbré
Artist François-Xavier Gbré will speak at The World Around Summit 2026, taking place on Saturday, May 9, from 11am to 6pm at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
For the past fifteen years, Gbré has explored the built environment across West Africa as an evolving record of economic development, social transformation, and memory. From the dilapidated remnants of colonial-era institutions to the monuments of post-independence urban development, Gbré’s photographs consider the region’s architectural heritage as part of its contemporary reality, revealing how the legacies of the past converge in the present.
Gbré’s works are held in the collections of Centre Pompidou, The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and Tate Modern, among many other institutions. In 2020, Gbré received the Louis Roederer Foundation Discovery Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles. He was also the inaugural laureate of the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès’ Latitudes program.
