The artist Assoukrou Aké is hosted in residence at Polyominos for two weeks, engaging in a period of research and experimentation.

Born in 1995 in Côte d’Ivoire, Assoukrou Aké is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Paris. After initially studying art in Côte d’Ivoire, he continued his education in France, studying Art History and Archaeology at Université Paris Nanterre, before joining the École Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Tours, from which he graduated in 2021.

His practice revolves around what he calls a “healing narrative.” Drawing on the social, medical, and political history of the African continent, as well as his own personal journey, he develops a body of work in which the intimate and the collective resonate with one another. Through a sensitive and engaged approach, Assoukrou Aké combines drama, humour, and poetry, developing an artistic language grounded in the notion of the “counter-gesture” and in an exploration of the reverse side of the image.

Assoukrou Aké has taken part in several major residencies, including at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, the Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca, the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Senegal, and Yishu 8 in Beijing. His work has been exhibited at major international institutions, including Documenta 15 in Kassel, La Conciergerie in Paris, Fundación Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Madrid, Collection Lambert in Avignon, MO.CO. Panacée in Montpellier, and La Ferme du Buisson in Noisiel.
