How does an artist’s first monograph come into being? What role can a book play in an artistic journey?

Through a conversation between multidisciplinary artist Assoukrou Aké and Edem Allado, physician-researcher, entrepreneur in the fields of art and culture, and founder of Polyominos, this event will explore the editorial journey behind Assoukrou Aké, Précis d’anatomie et d’une dissection, the first monograph dedicated to the artist, produced with the support of the Casa de Velázquez as part of its production support fund.

From their meeting at the Casa de Velázquez to the publication of the book, they will reveal the behind-the-scenes process of the project: the editorial concept, the choice of contributors, the selection of images, the art direction, and the many decisions that transform a research project into a book.

The conversation will also provide an opportunity to revisit Assoukrou Aké’s artistic journey, the residencies that have shaped his practice, and the place this monograph now occupies in his artistic development.
