Know more about the artists
From 3 to 5 May 2019, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury had the pleasure of participating in the 5th edition of the Contemporary African Art Fair 1-54 in New York. On this occasion, the gallery presented a group exhibition of three artists, a sculptor, Jems Koko Bi, a visual artist, Dalila Dalléas Bouzar and a photographer, François-Xavier Gbré.
Their works dialogue across borders: Jems Koko Bi is an Ivorian sculptor living in Germany, Dalila Dalléas Bouzar, of Algerian origin, lives in France and exhibits here a series of portraits made in Dakar, while the photographs of François-Xavier Gbré, a Franco-Ivorian artist, are those of the former Palais de Justice in Dakar. The heads of Jems Koko Bi, with thick lines, respond to the oil-painted portraits of Dalila Dalléas Bouzar, and together they inhabit the large abandoned rooms of the Palais de Justice, or rather underline the emptiness of it. -
