Vincent Michéa's work explores the notion of rewriting the image, which is particularly present in his practice of photo-collage, which he describes as follows: "I cut, slice, carve, incise, shear, lacerate, amputate, decapitate, dismember". This statement also applies to the artist's approach to our common past because nothing, neither paper, nor reality, nor time, nor history, is immune to dissection and recomposition.
"I only paint what I like," says the artist. Vincent Michéa's work includes the symbolist universe of Pop Art and the Bauhaus in architecture, and he is also passionate about the sculptural aspect of the new post-industrial revolution cities, Paris and New York and Tel Aviv in particular, and Dakar, for which he is experiencing a real architectural shock.
Vincent Michéa is above all a collector of images. At the heart of his creative process are his own shots as well as pictures borrowed from African history. His approach is committed, the choice of photographs is sensitive. In this obsessive quest, Michéa becomes a fabulous image manipulator and one of the first painters to have treated a vibrant and edifying African iconography.
The construction of these images is at the frontier of different places and times, impalpable temporality, Michéa takes us into another space-time, that of his sensitive interpretation of the world.
