agnès b. presents the sixth season of its Fab. collection, dedicated to body language.
Body language is part of non-verbal communication, i.e. all the messages we can convey without using words. In this case, body language is all the manifestations of the body such as bodily attitudes, gaze, a smile, a shrug of the shoulder that can convey meaning.
The body in art thus becomes subject, object, support, measure and material, which the artist, as he sees fit, questions, sublimates or derides. It is because he represents his own body or that of others that Man has an image of himself and a place in the world.
Through drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, films and videos linked to the theme of body language, the exhibition looks at the social body, the functions, gestures and behaviors that reveal it, the order and poetry that result, the gentleness, beauty and sometimes violence of body-to-body contact, the representation of the body in space, whether in nature, the city or an enclosed space.
The language of the body is expressed through the works of some sixty artists, both emblematic and enigmatic, from Peter Hujar to Tracey Emin, via Larry Clark, Malick Sidibé and Niki de Saint Phalle.
