On the occasion of the release of the monograph Assoukrou Aké, Précis d’Anatomie et d’une dissection, published by Les Presses des Pionniers and produced with the support of the Casa de Velázquez, Assoukrou Aké, Edem Allado, and Olivia Marsaud will come together for a discussion dedicated to the artist’s journey and practice.

This conversation will draw on the reflections developed in the book to highlight the central role of engraving in Assoukrou Aké’s work, as well as the deep connections it maintains with his personal history. It will also explore the memorial, political, and emotional stakes that underpin his artistic approach.

The speakers will also revisit several international residency experiences—particularly in China, Spain, and Senegal—that have profoundly nourished and shaped the artist’s practice. These contexts of creation and research will be presented as pivotal milestones in the development of his visual language and the evolution of his work.
