Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is delighted to present Dieu n’est pas obligé, the third solo exhibition by artist Roméo Mivekannin.
Inspired by the incisive, ritualistic language of Ahmadou Kourouma and by Côte d’Ivoire’s initiatory societies, Dieu n’est pas obligé (the title borrowed from his novel Allah n’est pas obligé) echoes our contemporary passages: growing up, leaving, returning, being reborn. From the mad figures of Abidjan’s streets to the initiates of Salvador, the exhibition explores the courage required to cross over without promise.
