Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is delighted to showcase a collaboration between the artists Vincent Michéa and Sadikou Oukpedjo in the exhibition Les Fantômes de l’Afrique (Siriel Rellik) presented in our new space in Plateau, Dakar.
This collaborative work is emblematic of a repertoire of various and precise gestures, be they harmonious or dissident, that use matter as an experimentation field. Shaped out of a single block, Sadikou Oukpedjo’s sculptures are traces of the artist’s explosive gesture, a mastered energy generative of strong aesthetic figures. They attire themselves in Vincent Michéa’s metallic stands in a radical gesture. Ornaments and props at the same time, Michéa’s rods relentlessly stab their wooden flesh. Rust contrasts with gold traces as if they were fragments of a past greatness, or maybe the rediscovery of a forgotten treasure, hidden among the ancestral fibers of the wood.
