Cécile Fakhoury gallery is pleased to announce Eden, the solo exhibition of the French-Algerian artist Dalila Dalléas Bouzar in her Parisian showroom, from February 11th to March 26th 2021.
While at the beginning of this year the works of Dalila Dalléas Bouzar are presented in various exhibitions in France, the Cécile Fakhoury gallery wishes to weave links around an extremely rich body of work, at the intersection of very intimate and very topical research, from the heritage of Algerian memory and the memory of women, to the representation of minorities in art.
The works in the exhibition Eden continue and amplify the research that was presented in Abidjan in early 2020 in the exhibition Innocente. More than a year after the exhibition in Abidjan, this multiple notion, innocence, still resonates through works from different series never shown in Paris. The bodies of women, children and men, freed from the finery, the weight of cultures and the gaze, release a purity and innocence that they have never lost except in the gaze of the other. Represented in oil on linen canvas, free from any judgement and any association of ideas, they bear a simplicity and strength that has only rarely been granted to non-white bodies in the history of Western painting.
The space of painting and the space of performance meet in the exhibition as always in Dalila Dalléas Bouzar's research. To the dynamic and almost psychedelic backgrounds of the works in the "Witches" series, respond the ribbons structuring the space of a trance that tests the capacities of this powerful and innocent body.
