Born in 1941 in the United States, Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, musician, painter and poet. With a complex, constantly evolving body of work ranging from aggressive rock to ballads and close to the social and cultural aspirations of the times it has lived through, he is one of the major figures of American popular music.

Born in 1992 in Nigeria, Teniola Apata, from her artist name Teni, is a Nigerian singer. Feminist and opposed to the patriarchal traditions of her country, she is one of the most fashionable Nigerian singers at the moment.

"In the process of creating ABIDJAN GREEN ARTS I had a lot of discussions with the writer Véronique Tadjo. She had just coincidentally published this magnificent novel, In the Company of Men, in which the main character is a tree. That book did me a lot of good." JKB
Born in France in 1955 and raised in the Ivory Coast, Véronique Tadjo is a Franco-Ivorian writer, author of poems, novels and books for young people, which she illustrates herself. In 2005, she was awarded the Grand Prix littéraire d'Afrique Noire.

Born in Jamaica in 1944, Jimmy Cliff, is one of the most recognized Jamaican reggae singers of his generation. Many Rivers to cross was composed by the artist in 1969, and has since been performed by many artists, including John Lennon and Joe Cocker. The title was honoured with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2011.

"When I was discussing the concept of exodus and migration, I came across this novel by Fatou Diome Le ventre de l'atlantique and his writings have been a great reference for my work." JKB
Fatou Diome, born in 1968 in Niodor, Senegal, is a Franco-Senegalese writer and intellectual. After the publication of a collection of short stories, La Préférence nationale, in 2001, the novel Le Ventre de l'Atlantique, in 2003, brought her international fame. Her work explores the themes of immigration in France and the relationship between France and the African continent.

Issa Samb (1945-2017) - also known as Joe Ouakam, after his home neighbourhood in Dakar - is a Senegalese sculptor, painter, actor, critic, author, poet, playwright and philosopher.An emblematic figure of the Agit-Art movement, created in the early 1970s with director Djibril Diop Mambéty and a collective of artists, writers and filmmakers, Issa Samb was one of the first to openly criticize the ideology of Negritude promoted by Senghor and to denounce the political turn taken by the arts in Senegal.
